Illumination

Illuminate features & make defects visible

Influence of the test object

Influencing factors for 2D image generation

Even with the same lighting technology, the inspected object itself has the greatest influence on the resulting video image to be precessed later.

Three key factors are responsible for this:

1. Colour

Material colours colours (transparent, semi-transparent, white, red, green, ..., black)

2. Shape

The macroscopic shape properties, e.g. surface geometry (planar, stepped, inclined surfaces, spherical, cylindrical, etc.) have a very large influence on image generation

3. Texure

The microscopic shape properties are also important (and often cause the most difficulties)

  • Interactions of light with the material characteristics (plastic, metal, glass, ceramics, etc.)
  • Surface texture (parallel brushing, circular brushing, grooved, porous, smooth, rough, fibrous, etc.)

Typical: Complex components

  • Different shapes
  • Colours
  • Materials
  • Surface textures

Direct light

Diffused light

Images: Difficult to illuminate, shiny metal workpiece with a largely flat surface.
